Business News

Upcoming environmental watering

Environmental watering actions are set to begin across several sites in the Murray Irrigation footprint, using new infrastructure built as part of the Company’s Restoring Murray Waterways project that was funded by the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

These actions will be delivered through new escapes, which enable improved environmental water delivery to key ecological assets across the system.

Environmental watering will commence this week in the Cochran–Jimaringle, Murrain–Yarrien, Buccaneit and Thule creeks to improve water quality in refuge pools and support riparian vegetation.

A trial will be conducted in Gwynnes and Yarrien creeks to test the new escapes, providing valuable insights into future delivery options.

Final decision - WAMC charges

IPART has now determined the maximum prices the NSW Government (WAMC) can charge customers for its water planning, management, and regulation services (Prices for Water Administration Ministerial Corporation (WAMC) from 1 October 2025 | IPART). These services are separate to those provided by WaterNSW.

IPART has limited WAMC to an average price increase of 5% per year, plus inflation. This will result in a total increase of 21.6% - plus inflation - for the period these prices will apply, which is from 1 October 2025 to 30 June 2029.

Current WaterNSW charges have only been set for one year, and must be reviewed and re-set by IPART prior to 1 July 2026.

Early consultation on this process is expected to start this month (
Prices for WaterNSW regional and rural bulk water from 1 July 2026 | IPART).
