Restoring Murray Waterways - Wetland Watering EOI

Following the successful completion of Stage 4 of Muray Irrigation's environmental watering initiative, Restoring Murray Waterways (RMW), the company is now calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from local landholders to participate in the next phase of this project.

Register your interest here

Over the past five years, Murray Irrigation has worked collaboratively with landholders across the footprint through the initial stages of RMW. This has enabled the increased environmental watering of 308km of creek systems and approximately 2,500 ha of private wetlands.

The company is now progressing into the Expansion Phase of the initiative, which aims to connect a further 10,000 ha of private wetlands once complete.

Involvement will generally involve civil works such as upgrades of outlets, channel clearing and crossings to facilitate watering and ongoing usage of the surrounding land.

Click on the button below for more information about this EOI, including a comprehensive fact sheet on what participating landholders can expect.

Moruya High School visit

Last week Murray Irrigation had the pleasure of showcasing our region's remarkable irrigation scheme to Year 12 Agriculture, Earth and Environmental Science and Food Tech students from NSW south coast-based Moruya High School.

The visit formed part of a school field trip giving students a firsthand look at the Murray River system and how it supplies water for irrigated agriculture, environmental conservation, and domestic use for communities located along Australia's longest river.

During a tour of the Yarrawonga Weir and the Mulwala offtake, we shared details of how our water delivery system works, the vast area it feeds, how modern technology has enhanced its operating efficiency, and how our network of channels and infrastructure is used to deliver water for the environment.

It was great to meet such a highly engaged group of students and help support their studies in this practical, hands-on way.

Lessons from the Land webinar - The Cropping Session

Drought Adoption Officers are delivering a series of candid online webinars with practical insights and technical advice.

In this free webinar, NSW crop producers will share how they navigated the hardest decisions during drought including:

  • Whether to sow or fallow
  • Managing high input costs against uncertain rainfall
  • How they used (or didn’t use) seasonal forecasts, crop modelling, and soil moisture data to guide choices.

You'll also hear about the changes they’ve made since — in rotations, varieties, and stubble management.

Whether you're facing another dry year, or reflecting on past seasons, this is a chance to learn from others who’ve been through it — and come out the other side with new insights.

Date:
 Today Tuesday 4 November
Time:
7.00pm - 8.30pm
