IPART Review - WaterNSW regional and rural bulk water charges

IPART is continuing its review of new WaterNSW charges, which are scheduled to start on 1 July 2026.

The new charges will apply to all WaterNSW regional and rural bulk water services, including costs that are passed through to Murray Irrigation's customers.

In late October, IPART released a Discussion Paper to support its review. You can access the paper below.

IPART has posed 17 questions for stakeholder consideration. The questions are listed on pages 6 and 7 of the Discussion Paper.

Read IPART Discussion paper - October 2025

Yesterday, IPART held a public online forum on the topic of cost-shares.

The key items discussed included consideration of what proportion of costs should be paid by irrigators, compared to the NSW Government and other water users.

Murray Irrigation staff noted to IPART that there is significant non-irrigator use of water and WaterNSW assets, and this use should not be paid for by irrigators.

IPART is hosting another public online forum, this time on pricing related issues, on Monday 17 November. You can register to attend by clicking on the button below.

Submissions to IPART close on 20 November.

We will continue to update you as we finalise the drafting of Murray Irrigation's submission.

Volunteers receive an education in irrigation

Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre volunteers and representatives from Edward River council dropped by Murray Irrigation's Deni office last week for a masterclass in all things water.

The group was eager to learn more about Murray Irrigation's water delivery system, and about irrigation in general in this region.

There was plenty to chat about, as our team delved into the history of the irrigation scheme, how it has evolved over the years through technology, the industries and communities it supports, and how Murray Irrigation uses our infrastructure to supply water for the environment.

The visitors also received a tour of our operations centre to find out how water is ordered and delivered to customers around the clock.

It was a fantastic catch up, with the group taking away valuable information about irrigation that they can share with tourists who visit the region.
