IPART pricing review update
As communicated in last week's
Talking Water, IPART is continuing its review of new WaterNSW charges, which are scheduled to start on 1 July 2026.
As part to the process, IPART is currently seeking feedback on the below Discussion Paper.
In the meantime, IPART held a second public online forum yesterday on the topic of 'pricing related matters'.
The key items discussed included:
- The length of time that IPART should set water prices for
- Whether WaterNSW should increase the fixed component of water bills
- How water use forecasts should be derived
- Irrigator affordability, and capacity to pay.
Murray Irrigation staff have recommended to IPART that WaterNSW prices should increase by no more than CPI in the medium term.
In addition, our staff continue to emphasise the challenges of running an agribusiness, and how tight margins can easily be eroded by high water charges.
Submissions on the Discussion Paper close this Thursday, 20 November. You can make a submission by clicking on the button below.
We will share Murray Irrigation's final submission with you, once it has been provided to IPART.
