Business News

IPART water price review

The NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has released its draft decision on prices charged by the NSW Government (WAMC) for water management services.

Read the draft report here

IPART's decision will set charges that are substantially less than what WAMC was seeking, and will apply over a three-year determination period, consistent with what has been applied to WaterNSW.

IPART has found that many of WAMC’s proposed costs are excessive, and has emphasised the key point raised in many submissions that affordability is a priority concern.

It has recommended that WAMC’s cost allocation and pricing structures be reviewed prior to commencement of the next determination.

IPART is receiving submissions on its draft decision through to 1 July 2025.

Murray Irrigation will be preparing a submission, largely focussed on IPART’s key findings, as outlined above.

We encourage customers to also make their own submissions directly to IPART, to ensure local voices continue to be heard.

New collective formed to respond to region's water challenges

Murray Irrigation is among a group of local business, community and industry groups who have joined forces to develop solutions for mitigating the social and economic impacts of water buybacks.

Other organisations involved in this initiative include Edward River Council, the Deniliquin Business Chamber and the Murray Regional Strategy Group.

The group has been established ahead of a NSW Parliamentary Committee hearing in Deniliquin, which was originally scheduled to take place tomorrow (Wednesday), examining the impacts of water buybacks on regional communities.

Read more in the below joint media release.

Local groups collaborate to build region's future

Due to bad weather and airport closure, tomorrow's hearing in Deniliquin has been postponed until further notice (a hearing due to take place in Griffith today has similarly been delayed).

Murray Irrigation looks forward to joining local organisations to communicate the community's united position when the Parliamentary Committee convenes in Deniliquin at a later date.

Foundational Asset Condition Assessment Project Update

Murray Irrigation is continuing to make positive progress with our Foundational Asset Conditions Assessment Project (FACAP) Field Survey.

The Aerial Photogrammetry Survey is now approximately 98% completed, and the Bathymetric Survey is now approximately 85% complete.

The project team is also currently using LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) aerial technology to survey more than 1,000 kilometres of channel which has been dewatered for Winter maintenance activity.

More details, including maps of areas of the network covered so far, can be found in our latest progress report below.

FACAP Progress Updater - June 2025

Murray Irrigation has also established a dedicated webpage hosting a range of information and progress updates on this key company project that we are undertaking with Beca.
