Outlet useage survey 2026
As committed during the fee structure review earlier this year, Murray Irrigation (Company) is conducting a customer survey to understand the future utilisation of underused irrigation and stock and domestic outlets in the footprint.
The survey is open from 30 September 2026 until Friday 30 October 2026.
This survey is an information-gathering exercise only. Completing the survey does not commit a customer, or Murray Irrigation, to any future decommissioning, upgrade or funding program.
This survey will help us understand:
- Which outlets are being used.
- Whether unused outlets might be needed in the future.
- Customer interest in decommissioning outlets.
- Barriers to removing outlets.
- Opportunities to better align infrastructure with customer needs.
Further information can be found in this Customer Update or in the Frequently Asked Questions below.
If customers wish to have a discussion with the team about how decommissioning outlets might affect their quarterly bill or find out more information about the survey process, please contact the Customer Experience team on 1300 138 265 or email customersupport@murrayirrigtion.com.au.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you running this survey?
When we introduced the new fee structure on 1 July 2026, we committed to talking with customers about their outlet requirements.
We know every farm is different. Some customers use all their outlets regularly, some keep outlets for future plans, and others may have outlets they no longer need.
Is this survey about removing outlets?
No.
The survey is an information gathering exercise only. No decisions about outlet removal will be made as a result of a survey response alone.
Any future recommendations arising from the survey would be subject to further assessment, approvals and business case development.
Why are you asking about outlets now?
A major reason is the introduction of the new fee structure and the move towards full cost recovery for outlet infrastructure.
During the fee review process, many customers told us they wanted to better understand their options for retaining, consolidating or removing outlets.
This survey gives customers an opportunity to provide that feedback.
Why have outlet fees increased?
The independent fee review found that outlet fees were not fully covering the costs of operating, maintaining and replacing outlet infrastructure.
The new fee structure better aligns outlet charges with the actual costs of providing and maintaining those assets.
How much have outlet fees changed?
- XL Outlet - previous = $2,049 | new = $3,221
- Large Outlet - previous = $1,538 | new =$2,767
- Small Outlet - previous = $1,157 | new = $2,347
- Stock & Domestic Outlet - previous = $529 | new =$1,073
What if I don't use the outlet now but might need it later?
That's exactly the type of information we're looking for.
Many customers retain outlets for:
- Future irrigation plans.
- Succession planning.
- Property development.
- Drought preparedness.
- Operational flexibility.
Please include those reasons in your survey response.
What will happen with the survey results?
The results will help Murray Irrigation:
- Understand future irrigation requirements.
- Identify barriers to outlet decommissioning.
- Assess current and future outlet requirements identified by customers.
- Support future network planning.
- Inform the Board.
