Transition to Winter Operations
In line with the Season Operating Plan, Murray Irrigation has commenced the transition from Regular Operations to Winter Operations.
The Winter Operations period (May to August) focuses on completing the annual maintenance program on time and within budget, while continuing to provide customers with access to water delivery wherever possible.
Water Delivery – Guaranteed Dates
Murray Irrigation expects to release water delivery guaranteed dates prior to the beginning of May for all customers in 2026 maintenance and non-maintenance areas.
After your guaranteed delivery date, access to water (including stock and domestic supply) cannot be guaranteed.
Preparing for Winter Works
In preparation for winter maintenance, customers may notice an increase in vehicles and heavy machinery on and around channels, bridges, and landholdings.
Activities may include:
- Delivery of materials
- Track grading
- Construction of silt traps
Safety is our priority. Please remain vigilant around increased activity on roads and channel banks
Stock & Domestic Reminder – Fill Dams Now
Water may not be available over winter for stock and domestic use if:
- Your outlet is within a maintenance area, or
- Channel levels are too low to allow delivery
We strongly recommend filling dams now to ensure adequate supply through to mid-August.
Other Winter Maintenance Works
In 2026, the Mulwala Canal will be drained to enable works on key regulating structures.
Customers impacted by works occurring in non-maintenance areas will be notified approximately two weeks prior to works commencing.
