Cyber Security Awareness Month 2023

16 October 2023

Murray Irrigation is supporting October's Cyber Security Awareness Month 2023 by encouraging customers to protect themselves from scams and staying securing online.

With reports of cybercrime on the rise, there are four simple steps you can take to be cyber wise and significantly boost your cyber security:

  • Update your devices regularly
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication
  • Back up your important files
  • Use passphrases and password managers.

And please remember that scams, such as invoice hacking, can happen to anyone.

Invoice hacking is where cyber criminals intercept emailed invoices, replace the real bank payment details on the invoice with their own, and then forward it on for payment.

There are ways to ensure invoices received from any company are correct, including:

  • Comparing with previous invoices received to see if there are any changes.
  • Checking to see if the payment details are the same as on previous invoices.
  • Checking to make sure that email address it was received from is the same as previous emails.

If you are ever unsure about the integrity of an invoice, or if the details on your invoice and the bank details stored in your online banking do not match, please call the company involved.
