Fee Structure Review

Watch the above video to hear from Murray Irrigation Board Directors about the proposed fee structure, what it means for customers and what it means for the company.

As announced in our Customer Update yesterday, Murray Irrigation is pleased to be releasing details of a proposed new fee structure to resolve the challenges associated with inequitable and fixed costs associated with Delivery Entitlements (DEs).

Read Customer Update - 23 March 2026

The company has undertaken this significant piece of work in response to feedback from customers, who have asked us for greater equity and flexibility in the way they are charged.

The Murray Irrigation Board will be seeking customer feedback via an online survey before making its decision on whether to proceed with the proposed change to the company's fees, or to maintain the status quo.

If approved, the proposed fee structure would be implemented on 1 July 2026, effective for the 2026-27 season onwards.

Visit our dedicated Fee Structure Review webpage below for all the details.

Operational Update

Water orders and Daylight Saving

Daylight Saving ends on Sunday 5 April.

For customers placing water orders that end after this date, the water ordering system will automatically reduce your order by an hour to the normal finish time to enable lodgement.

Our Customer Experience staff will manually adjust all orders ending after 5 April to the correct finish time for the channel system.

For more information or assistance with orders, call our Customer Experience team on 1300 138 265.

Gate Cycling Program progress

Now into its sixth week, Murray Irrigation’s Gate Cycling Program is making strong progress and demonstrating positive early outcomes across the network.

Since commencing, a total of 728 gates have been successfully cycled.

We have received only one request to postpone, and while some issues have been identified - including 9 outlet failures and 11 regulator failures (2.7% of gates tested) - there has been no impact to customers.

This program is already demonstrating its value by improving outlet reliability through proactive identification of faults, reducing the risk of unplanned failures during peak delivery periods, and supporting more efficient and responsive water delivery.

We will continue to trial our current communication approach with customers over the next two weeks.

Based on feedback and outcomes, we may look to streamline the number of calls required while still ensuring customers are informed and supported.

We would like to thank our customers for working with us on this initiative.

For further information, please contact our Customer Experience team on 1300 138 265 or visit our website.

Restoring Murray Waterways prepping for expansion

Using infrastructure constructed during the latest stage of the company's Restoring Murray Waterways (RMW) environmental watering project (Stage 4), Murray Irrigation has been working with the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder and New South Wales environmental water managers to facilitate the release of Commonwealth environmental water into a number of local creeks and wetland sites.

Stage 4 of our RMW project has been implemented using $28.5M in funding provided by the Australian Government.

With Stage 4 now complete, Murray Irrigation is now preparing for the next phase of RMW, which will target even more creeks and wetlands throughout the Edward/Kolety-Wakool River System.

Watch the video and read our media release to find out more about Murray Irrigation's Restoring Murray Waterways project.

Asset maintenance survey flights starting this week

Murray Irrigation would like to advise customers and the community that aerial photogrammetry survey flights will be taking place over parts of the footprint in the next few weeks.

These survey flights are being conducted as of part of the company's ongoing asset maintenance activity.

Scheduled to commence later this week, this work will take approximately 10 days to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Employing aerial imaging technology similar to that used during the
Foundational Asset Condition Assessment Project survey we undertook last year, light wing aircraft will be flying at around 1000 feet in some areas to capture images of irrigation assets including infrastructure and channels.

The below video from last year's Foundational Asset Condition Assessment Project provides further insight into the aerial imaging we are using, and how it works.
