Operational Update

Report your blow grass blockages

Blow grass blockage in early November 2023 at the Deniboota extension channel on the Barham Road.

Please report any blow grass blockages or other weed blockages you observe.

Depending on the channel size and blockage location, it can be some time before our level sensors show any impact and, in some circumstances, we will not be alerted to the issue.

Reporting will allow Murray Irrigation to action these issues as soon as possible and minimise the impact on your operating order.

Business Update

Murray Irrigation supports councils to secure funding to assess local crossings

Murray Irrigation has partnered with five local councils in our footprint to successfully secure $2.733 million in NSW Government funding to conduct load assessments on public bridges and culverts across our network.

The funding announced is part of the Fixing Country Roads program – Round 6 and will be used to assess 384 public bridges and culverts located on council-owned roads across the Berrigan, Edward River, Federation, Murray River and Murrumbidgee LGAs over the next 12 months.

The purpose of the initiative is to complete detailed load assessments of existing load limited structures to review future utility, and to inform future maintenance and replacement programs.

Government water executives get a glimpse into local irrigation industry

Murray Irrigation and our neighbouring Irrigation Infrastructure Operators (IIOs), Murrumbidgee Irrigation and Coleambally Irrigation, hosted a group of senior executives from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment's Water Group and Biodiversity and Conservation Division on a two-day tour of the region last week.

The delegation - which included Water Group Deputy Secretary Amanda Jones, Acting Chief Operating Officer Ash El-Sherbini, Chief Knowledge Officer, Water Management, Mitchell Isaacs, Grants Program Director Kirsty Fenton and Senior Environmental Water Management Officer (Murray Lower Darling) Paul Childs - received a firsthand look at local water saving projects and irrigation infrastructure, and spoke with local landholders about issues that are most important to them.

Virtual Channel Fundraising Walk

The Barham Local Health Medical Trust is on the home straight of its Virtual Fundraising Walk.

The campaign is seeking to generate $20,000 throughout the month of November for health services for the Barham/Koondrook communities.

Every dollar contributed will help make a difference, so even if you're not up for walking, then donating directly to the campaign offers a great alternative.

The campaign team has also organised a Community Celebration Day, which will be held at the Barham Recreation Reserve this Sunday 26 November. There will be food and drinks, live music and kids activities - a great day out for everyone.

It's not too late to get involved in this year's Virtual Fu
ndraising Walk, so make sure you visit the campaign website to find how, including how you can make a donation.
