New Water Product Announcement

Following the launch of Water Solutions in July 2025, Murray Irrigation is pleased to offer a new Forward Allocation water product exclusively to Murray Irrigation customers via our partnership with Ruralco Water.

What is a Forward Allocation Product?

A Forward Allocation Product is a guaranteed volume of water for a future date. Murray Irrigation is offering this product exclusively to Murray Irrigation customers for an initial two-year period, over the 2026/27 and 2027/28 irrigation seasons.

Why are we introducing a Forward Allocation Product?

As communicated previously, Water Solutions has incorporated the 80GL from the Sustainability Product to underpin the purchase of permanent water entitlements. From the 2026/27 irrigation year, a portion of this 80GL will be sold via a Forward Allocation Product. This initiative comes in response to a customer engagement exercise where an overwhelming 88% of participants supported the adoption of a Forward Allocation Product so long as it was offered exclusively within the Murray Irrigation footprint.

How much water is being offered?

Murray Irrigation is offering 20GL via an online auction over 20 varying parcel sizes on the Ruralco Water online trading platform. This is the only offering; no further auctions will be held this irrigation season.

What does this mean for the Sustainability Product?

Murray Irrigation has committed through the approval of Water Solutions to commercialise 80GL of water annually. If 20GL is sold via the Forward Allocation Product auction, this means 60GL will be available for the Sustainability Product for the 2026/27 irrigation season.

Why is Murray Irrigation using Ruralco Water?

The introduction of the Water Market Intermediaries Legislation has placed additional requirements on market participants. Murray Irrigation is managing the Forward Allocation product at arms length to ensure compliance with the new code.

How can customers participate?

The auction is being held on the Ruralco Water online trading platform and is available exclusively to all financial Murray Irrigation customers (Murray Irrigation Water Exchange customers are not eligible to participate). The auction process is fully transparent where customers will be able to bid for a range of parcel sizes.

The auction for each individual parcel will commence closing on 9 February 2026, with the final auction closing on 20 February 2026.
