Murray Irrigation announces successful sponsorship recipients

7 July 2023

Murray Irrigation has contributed a total of $15,000 in funding towards five local initiatives through its 2023 Community Sponsorship Program.

This year's successful recipients were selected from 18 applicants, with each fulfilling the criteria requirements of supporting healthy, viable and vibrant local communities. They are as follows:

  • Berrigan War Memorial Swimming Pool has received $500 to purchase equipment to help young children how to swim.

  • Berriquin Community Toy Library has been allocated $1,500 towards relaunching this volunteer initiative after a seven-year recess.

  • Deniliquin High School has been awarded $5,000 to establish a sensory garden that will cater for the needs of students with disabilities.

  • The Local Health Medical Trust has been allotted $3,000 to support the charity group's ongoing fundraising efforts to enhance health services for the Barham community.

  • Wakool Services Club has been allocated $5,000 towards upgrading its existing toilet amenities to ambulant/disability facilities, ensuring access for all guests and visitors.

The funding could not have come at a better time for the Berriquin Toy Library, according to the volunteer committee's secretary Anna Atkinson.

“We were so excited to hear that we had been successful in our application and are incredibly grateful for the opportunities that Murray Irrigation give to their local community," Anna said.

“The financial sponsorship from Murray Irrigation will assist us to update and expand on the toys in our collection as we relaunch the toy library for our community.”

Now into its sixth year, Murray Irrigation's annual grants program supports projects that promote community participation, safety and wellbeing within our region.

As part of the company's sponsorship activities this year, a further $15,000 has been allocated towards its long running annual Learn to Swim program.

Murray Irrigation CEO Ron McCalman thanked all organisations who applied for funding, praising the strong calibre of this year's submissions.

"The volume and scope of this year's applications showcases the energy, innovation and drive of local organisations to make their communities a better place, whether that be through sporting, health and wellbeing activities or initiatives that assist the vulnerable, support inclusivity and sustain the environment," Mr McCalman said.

"Each and every project demonstrated a commitment to making a difference in the community, and I would encourage those who may not have been successful in this year's funding round to consider reapplying in 2024."

Mr McCalman said Murray Irrigation's Community Sponsorship Program is made possible through the support of the company's shareholders and customers.

“Supporting communities across our footprint continues to be an important part of the social responsibility for Murray Irrigation," he said.

Applications for the 2024 sponsorship program will open in the first half of next year.
