Meet Our Customer Engagement Manager: Tom Kindred

31 October 2023

What does your role entail?

My role involves coordinating the Customer Engagement Team to proactively engage with Murray Irrigation's customer base, build relationships with customers and deal with complex issues that impact customers.

2. How long have you worked at Murray Irrigation?

I started work with Murray Irrigation in June 2022 as a Control System Operator before I moved into the Customer Accounts Team and then

into my current role as Customer Engagement Manager in July.

3. What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy getting out and about speaking to farmers and seeing some

of the beautiful countryside in the Murray Irrigation footprint. I also

like the variety of work that comes through the Customer Engagement

Team that makes each day different.

I understand the importance of water to agriculture so I enjoy when

we can make improvements that benefit farmers in their day-to-day activities.

4. What is the greatest challenge? ?

Working in a fast-paced environment means there is an ever-changing workflow coming in. The variety of work changes rapidly, which means

we need to ensure we are picking up trends quickly so we can effectively target issues that will impact our customers.

5. How would you describe your team's culture?

The team has a great mix of experienced staff and fresh starters with

new ideas who encourage collaboration and are committed to improving the customer’s experience.

A few words I would use to describe the team are accountable, caring

and committed.

6. Can you describe what a typical day looks like for you?

My work varies greatly depending on what kind of queries are coming into the business.

Currently I am working with the team to engage with customers to seek feedback on the operational service of Murray irrigation and how it can be improved to better the customer's experience. This is being completed through a mix of engagement activities, including on-farm customer meetings and surveys.

7. What do you see is the key to building strong customer relationships?

I think accountability, respect and effective communication are extremely important.

At the end of the day Murray Irrigation and our customers want the same thing - and that is the reliable delivery of water to our region’s farms and communities for generations to come.
