Murray Irrigation is committed to the long term sustainability of our region. We aim to achieve a balance between environmental protection and agricultural production.
We are committed to addressing the direct impacts of providing irrigation and stormwater services through improvements in risk assessment and management systems.
We also strive to reduce the indirect impacts of water use by irrigators through company policies and implementation of the Murray Land and Water Management Plans (LWMPs). |
 An anabranch of the Murray, the Edward River is one of the main waterways in our region.
|
Our key strategies are to:
-
Minimise the impact of irrigation on the local and downstream environment,
comply with our licences and maintain regional agricultural productivity and environmental values;
-
Take a lead role in the management of major environmental assets in the region;
-
Encourage landholders to adopt best management practices to minimise the impacts of irrigation and maximise water use efficiency.
-
Continue to develop initiatives to address a range of specific issues identified in our
Environment Policy. These are: watertables, salinity, groundwater quality, stormwater quality, aquatic ecosystems, monitoring, water use efficiency, soil health, and biodiversity.
